Casement
windows are different from most of the windows one sees. Many windows
either slide from side to side, or are moved up and down. A casement
window, however, opens out. It is often hinged on one side, allowing
it to be operated in a vertical plane. A crank, usually turned by hand,
is the most popular type of casement window. Additionally, casement
windows are versatile: they can be used as bay
or bow windows. It is also possible
to have them made, like Pella windows,
for the purpose making the house storm proof.
The energy efficiency of vinyl casement windows
Not only is it possible to see to the windows protection during
a storm, it is possible to make the home more energy efficient when
casement windows are used. This is because vinyl, which is PVC, is
a poor conductor of heat. This means that heat does not go through
vinyl very well. So, rather than transferring heat right out of the
house by means of a window sash (as happens with aluminum) the vinyl
keeps the heat trapped inside the home. This can be a great asset
for any home owner trying to improve the energy efficiency of his
or her home, thus helping to keep the cost of heat low.
The energy efficiency
of vinyl casement windows is not the only advantage PVC has. Wood
can crack, split, warp and swell. If a wood casement window is
painted, the paint can chip or get scratches. This can create a
rather unattractive window as the years go by. Vinyl, on the other
hand, is not so affected by the environment. It stays looking the
same and beautiful many years of wood may have deteriorated. Additionally,
it is much easier to maintain. A wood casement window is going
to demand a great deal of maintenance work, from hardware and sealant
to wood polish. The great thing about vinyl is that is can be cleaned
with plain old soap and water. Besides, if you feel that you absolutely
must have the look of wood, it is possible to get vinyl casement
windows with a wood finish. You can have it all: the beautiful
and natural look of wood and the easy maintenance of vinyl. No
matter the look of your home, vinyl makes a great choice for casement
windows.
